Customs & Excise is the UK's first line of defence against some of today's most serious and organised criminals. It is their job to prevent illegal goods, such as some drugs, firearms, and child pornography, from entering the country. Customs play a major role in breaking up and jailing the sophisticated criminal organisations at the centre of these crimes.

They also collect around £9 billion in VAT, duties and other taxes every year - helping businesses to pay the right amount of tax at the right time and fining or prosecuting those who deliberately break the law.
