Truck Theft Advice

The Joint Action Group on Lorry Theft (JAGOLT) has published two leaflets to advise commercial vehicle operators and their drivers how to avoid truck theft.

The scale of the problem is highlighted in the leaflet for operators:

  • Eight out of every 1000 HGVs on the road are stolen every year and only one in every 1000 is recovered
  • Over one in four of the victims will lose business as a result
  • More than half of all trucks stolen are taken from operators’ own premises
  • Steer Clear of Truck Theft: security advice for commercial vehicle operators gives advice to owners and managers on what they should do to ensure their business does not fall victim to theft
  • Secure drivers gives pointers on recruiting the right drivers, driver training and company policy
  • Secure working practices covers secure vehicles, secure premises, vulnerable loads, and information on roof markings
